2Do Review for iPhone (Apple App of the Day)
A great UI and a lot to like.
I am already a big fan of this program! Let me say that going into this. For some reason, I have an unhealthy obsession with the Productivity category on the iTunes App store. Constantly on the lookout for that one app that will propel my productivity through the roof. Hint…it never happens.
This app has a great UI and looks at to-do apps from am atypical layout. I appreciate that because even the big apps like Todo, OmniFocus, Things and more are all generally the same with slightly different spins. Is this app perfect? Certainly not, I already have a short list of changes I’d love to see the developer include in the next version. However, for a 1.0 release, this is strong and has our attention here at Apps4Phones.
As you can see from the images, the UI uses a tabbed interface to categorize your to-dos in an easy to read fashion. At a glance, I can decide where to focus my efforts. Not different in theory than other to-do apps, but presented differently. As I’ve said a million times, I am a sucker for a pretty user interface.
What doesn’t this app have?
So far, no integration with third party sync services/apps like Remember The Milk or Toodledo. That’s a big issue for me as I use many platforms and these services are available on other high-end systems. Yes you can sync wirelessly using their Mac desktop software, but it’s a little cumbersome and not mobile on the run like other tops apps. This needs to be fixed and it will take this app to the next level!

Swiping a to-do give you a neat little animation of pencil crossing out your item. Entering data is equally as simple with a big “+” icon on the bottom left. Name your to-do, then you have usual option to give it a priority, define a category (which they confusingly call a Calendar), a due date, alarm, notes and URL. Curiously omitted for me is the ability to add a photo(s) to your to-do which I prefer.

While on the main page, you can even change your view to remove the tabs if you’re interested. In essence, it slides the image to the left, and allows for your alarms to be displayed on the right, while removing the tabs on the left. No biggie, but keeps you focused.
You can search on any page, and sort your views any number of ways: Decending/Ascending, by status, priority, calendar (category), due date, note, or by URL.
Overall the experience is easy on the eyes, and productive. If you accidentally log a to-do item as “done” you can make it “undone” very easily. Your tabs are color customizable and work well. Where the program falls short is relatively minor. I prefer mobile syncing, whether by .mac, a third party service like ToodleDo, or other, it’s important to me. The other minor issue, was when you change the view to remove tabs, multiple line to-do items get cut off a bit. That seems to be a minor bug that needs fixing. It only seems to happen under certain conditions as well.
I’m a user and that’s saying something because I am really picky with to-do apps.
